In this short paper, I continue my work on the phenomenology of autistic subjectivity and concepts of inefability in the context of camoflauging and masking.

This was a delightful week of teaching postgraduates on a special MA programme devoted to Ecology and Theology.

Co-hosted with Dr. Ema Sullivan-Bisset and funded by the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Birmingham, this workshop explored elements of non-rational moral reasoning and moral education.

I offered a paper on the ineffability of neurodivergent distress for the Digital Wellbeing Workshop for ‘Imagining Wellbeing’ in the Centre for Urban Wellbeing. This is part of my ongoing work thinking into neurodivergent experience using the tools of phenomenology and intersubjectivity.

As part of the Neurodiversity Celebration week programme, Dorothy Butchard and I hosted a beta testing session for our new Sensing Space app.

This talk is aimed at any neurodivergent students and researchers at UOB starting a research vocation, from undergrads contemplating their dissertation up to PhD researchers working towards their viva. In it, Jeremy Kidwell (associate professor in theological ethics) will talk about how to survive and thrive as a neurodivergent researcher, framed around his own experiences as an autistic scholar and work supporting ND students and colleagues over the past decade.

I gave this presentation to a working group I’m leading as part of a larger research project exploring race and class in British Theology and Religious Studies in higher education. We cover some of the basic challenges of working with HESA data around these two (intersectionally entangled) categories

This presentation was given to a team of terrific wellfare tutors at the University of Birmingham as part of an ongoing conversation the Staff ND network has been having with front-line teams at UOB involved in supporting students and staff with disabilities.

We arranged this workshop with a group of teachers and curriculum advisors to explore ways to impact the RE syllabus in the UK to enable teachers to cover topics of sustainability and the climate emergency.

An opening talk given to the College of Arts & Law graduate school executive. This is the start of a working group I’ll be convening which explores how to improve our support and provision for ND postgrad researchers.

Co-hosted with the Imagining Wellbeing project in the, Centre for Urban Wellbeing. This workshop is the first in a series exploring the lived effects of various kinds of environment. We’ll invite you to reflect on how you feel in current spaces on or off campus, hear from others in a panel discussion, and engage with creative ideas for alternative approaches to built environments.

Learn about the double empathy problem. We’ll screen a short (satirical) film just produced by UOB academics and have some discussion over tea and coffee about the complexities of empathy across forms of difference, especially in the context of autism.

This event is being co-hosted by T&R EDI and a group of MA students studying at the University of Birmingham. I’m learned a huge amount from the members of this colloquia who have been working for 2 years to compile theological insights, best practices and outreach strategies which can more intentionally connect with Black Majority churches in the UK. I’ll be sharing a bit of my experience decolonising British environmentalism over the past few years and getting input from this group of experts.

At the network event, several of us shared a stories about commoning and for my contribution I brought a piece of speculative sci-fi in hopes this might open up some of the issues involved in commons work.

As part of my ongoing research on the Mapping Community project, we ran a laboratory day in the Digital Cultures Studio here at UOB. I presented a brief keynote with some of my thoughts on mapping, data research, and empowering churches to make better organisational decisions in the full light of data.
